Do I qualify to be a candidate?
A person is eligible to be nominated as a candidate in a rural municipal election and hold office as a member of council if the person:

- Is at least 18 years of age on the day of the election
- Is not disqualified pursuant to any Act
- Is a Canadian citizen at the time that he or she submits the nomination forms
- Has resided in Saskatchewan for at least six (6) consecutive months immediately preceding the date on which he or she submitted the nomination forms
- Resides in Saskatchewan
- Is eligible to vote in the Rural Municipality

- Is a Canadian citizen
- Is at least 18 years of age
- Meets one of the following criteria:
- Has resided in the Rural Municipality, or land in the Rural Municipality, for at least three (3) consecutive months immediately preceding the day of the election;
- Is the registered owner of property in the Rural Municipality, or property now situated in the municipality;
- Is the assessed person with respect to property in the Rural Municipality, or property now situated in the municipality, pursuant to section 207 of the Municipalities Act;
- Is the spouse of a person mentioned above; OR
- Is the chief executive officer of a duly incorporated co-operative, corporation or religious association that is assessed on the last revised assessment roll with respect to property in the rural municipality that is not exempt from taxation.
Which division do I vote in?
A person is eligible to vote only in one (1) division in the rural municipality; to determine which division you qualify to vote in, you must determine which section first applies to you in the following order:

- The division you reside in.
- If you reside outside of the rural municipality, the division in which your property is assessed.
- If you own property in more than one division, you are eligible to vote in the division in which your total assessed value is the highest.
- If you own property in more than one division and the total assessed values are equal, you are eligible to vote at the lowest division number.
- If you jointly own property with another person, the total assessed value of that property is to be used when determining which division.
- If you do not reside in the municipality and are assessed in more than one division, you may designate which division you wish to vote in by notifying the administrator before 1 September in any year.
- If you made a designation as per section 6 above, you are bound by the notice given as long as you continue to be assessed in the same divisions.
- If you are assessed with respect to property in one division and your spouse is assessed in another division, either person may designate one of those divisions as the division they wish to vote in by notifying the administrator in writing before 1 September in any year.
- Persons mentioned in section 8 above may change the designation of the division in which they are eligible to vote to another division by notifying the administrator in writing not less than four (4) years before an election is to be held in the division.
Regardless of which division you qualify to vote in, you are also eligible to vote for the reeve.
Voter Identification
All voters must provide identification to be eligible to vote. The purpose of voter identification is to provide proof of identity and to establish residency. Government-issued photo identification is the best option, but other alternatives are available to you.

- Option I:
- One original piece of identification that includes your photo, name, and address.
- The identification must be issued by a federal, provincial, or municipal government, such as a Saskatchewan Driver’s License.
- Option II:
- Two original pieces of information, both of which must contain your name and at least one that contains your address. Examples of acceptable identification options include a utility bill issued to you within the last six months and a recent credit card statement.
- Option III:
- If you do not possess any form of acceptable identification, you may have another voter vouch for you or verify your identity and address on your behalf. In this case, the following requirements must be met:
- You must be accompanied by another voter who has acceptable identification.
- The voter who is vouching for you must be entitled to vote in the Municipality
- A form to vouch for another voter must be completed. These forms are available at the polling station.
- No voter shall vouch for more than one person in an election unless the persons to be vouched for are living at the same address as the voucher and are related to the voucher in one of the ways set out in the list of an acceptable voucher.
- The person who has been vouched for at an election shall not vouch for another person at that election.
- No election official shall vouch for the identity of any person.
- No candidate or candidate’s agent shall vouch for the identity of any person.
